How do you order your ceremony?

Occasionally I will meet with a couple at Starbucks to discuss their upcoming wedding ceremony. I know, its pricey and you really have to like jazz, but it gets the job done. When you step up to the counter you have the opportunity to customize your beverage with as many combinations as you can dream of. I am told that on a standard Starbucks menu, that there are 50,000 coffee combinations at your disposal. That is quite the arsenal to draw upon.

I believe you should have the same opportunity when it comes to your wedding ceremony. Why not have a wedding that is different from all your friends? What's wrong with tailoring the ceremony to your personalities? Absolutely nothing!

When I sit down with you to discuss your ceremony, I am open-minded in the planning process and I want your vision to become my vision for those 30 minutes in which you will become husband and wife. I have officiated themed weddings (Hunting with camouflage to the Dukes of Hazzard) and have even had to memorize movie scripts and act them out (remember the wedding from The Princess Bride?) Some couples want a Royal Wedding feel and most couples land somewhere in between. I have officiated it all.

When you plan a ceremony through me, I will arm you with the resources to make the ceremony your own, and I will be privileged to have been there. Marry on, my friends.

3 behavoiurs to avoid on your wedding day

It's the most important 30 minutes of your life. It's your wedding ceremony and if you are like Monica on Friends, you have been stashing ideas in 2 huge binders for 20 years now.  You likely have everything covered and are leaving nothing to chance but let me toss in 3 things that you need to avoid for your wedding ceremony.

1. Avoid Being Late
The reality is, unless you are the Queen, it's not a good idea to be late to the ceremony. If your friends are always referring to you as the one who is "fashionably late", well get that out of your system before your wedding day. Every minute you are late getting the ceremony started, a lot of people are affected and starting to sour. From caterers to servers, from the venue coordinator to the officiant, from the photographer to the DJ...people don't like to wait. And let's not forget your guests. If its a hot day, they will be huddled under a tree seeking shade and as retaliation, they may be tempted to slip some money out of the cards they brought you as a gift. Make your day memorable, just don't make it memorable by being late.

2. Avoid Not Being Heard
I get it, you are trying to save a few dollars on your wedding day. I applaud that. There is nothing wrong with being wise when it comes to money. I challenge you however, to reconsider not having a sound system for your ceremony. If you have a polished officiant who brings professionalism and passion to the ceremony, well your guests will appreciate that and certainly won't mind listening to him or her. Your guests however, really want to hear you say your vows. You may be soft spoken or nervous, it is your wedding day after all, and your grandmother does not want to miss you saying your vows. Please ensure you have a sound system, its worth it.

3. Avoid Not Laughing
Please accept the fact that not everything is going to go off as planned. There will be some hiccups. Your 4 year old nephew who is the ring bearer, may suddenly decide to shed some clothes. A gust of wind may come up and blow over the 3 foot vase, having it smash and startle your guests. The power may even go out. I have seen all that and more. You just need to take a deep breath, smile and laugh it off. A memory has been made. Granted, you don't want your wedding to be a remake of the ceremony from Meet The Parents, just make sure you can laugh because everyone is taking their cues from you.

Marry on, my friends.
